Hector R. Talavera

Hector R. Talavera Sr., age 76, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away on January 5, 2026, at Methodist Hospital Texsan in San Antonio, Texas.

Hector was born in Uvalde on December 3, 1949, to Evangelina (Uriegas) Overstreet and Carlos Talavera Jr. He was united in marriage to Elia Aguirre on September 2, 1967, and together they shared a lifetime of love, devotion, and family.

A retired diesel mechanic, Hector was known for his unique sense of humor, his willingness to lend a helping hand, and his constant presence in the lives of three generations of children. His strong work ethic, warm heart, and steady guidance will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elia Talavera of Uvalde; five children: Sonia Isabel Talavera of Lawton, Oklahoma, Hector R. Talavera Jr. of San Antonio, Texas, Gilbert Talavera and wife Shelly of Uvalde, Mark Anthony Talavera of Uvalde, and M. Teresa Talavera and husband Carlos of Irving, Texas; three brothers; three sisters; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Evangelina (Uriegas) Overstreet and Carlos Talavera Jr.; his stepfather, Herman Overstreet; and his brother, Gilbert Talavera.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.

Pallbearers will be Daryl Flores, Hector Talavera III, Mark Camaen Talavera, Noah Talavera, Moses Polanco, Carlos J. Reyes, David Polanco, Adam Alvarez, and Johnny Joe Garza.

Arrangements are under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary of Uvalde.
