Hector Perkins Olivarez

Hector Perkins Olivarez, 73, of Uvalde, Texas, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2025, at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio.

Hector was born on March 22, 1952, to Bessie (Perkins) and Frank Olivarez in Uvalde, Texas.

Hector proudly graduated from Uvalde High School before enlisting in the United States Army, where he embraced the opportunity to serve his country and see the world, an experience he cherished deeply. Following his military service, he pursued further education at Southwest Texas Junior College, where he trained as both a mechanic and a peace officer. His dedication to public service led him to serve as a constable and later as a bailiff for the Uvalde County Sheriff's Department.

On January 12, 1999, Hector married the love of his life, Mary Flores, in Uvalde. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and treasured memories throughout their 26 years of marriage.

After retirement, Hector combined his creativity and love for community by building a train ride, delighting children and families at local parties and events. Earning him the affectionate nickname "The Train Man." He found great joy in being outdoors, especially working on vehicles, welding, and spending time at the river with family and friends. He also enjoyed dancing, traveling, and visiting the casino. Above all, Hector was a devoted and loving father and grandfather, who cherished every moment spent with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary of Uvalde; two daughters, Dominique Olivarez and her husband Ray Rodriguez of Poteet, and Angie Olivarez and husband Miguel Suarez of Uvalde; two stepsons, Mario Garcia Jr. and Gabriel Garcia, both of Uvalde; and his sister, Janie Olivarez of Uvalde. Hector was also a proud grandfather to Olivia Rodriguez, Sophia Rodriguez, Ray Rodriguez Jr., and Matthew Olivarez. He leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him dearly.

Hector is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Frank Olivarez and John McDonald.
