Estelle Armistead DuBose, born on July 15,1935, in Corpus Christi, Texas, departed this life on October 1, 2025, in Uvalde, Texas. Better known as "Ma", she was beloved by all and renowned for her warmth, nurturing spirit, and deep devotion to family and friends.
Estelle lived a life filled with love and resilience, serving as a steadfast support to those around her. She faced the challenging moments of life with grace, including the recent passing of her husband, Tom, six months prior to her own departure. A woman of great faith, Estelle reveled in serving others. She was an active member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church where she served on the Altar Guild and as a member of The Daughters of the King. Her motto was, "If it's not about love, it's not about God". Estelle loved and welcomed everyone, nourishing them not only with her humor, faith and kindness, but also with her delicious cooking! She also had a great love for the United States of America and the freedoms we enjoy as its citizens. She encouraged civic involvement and took each of her grandchildren to register to vote when they turned 18. Estelle also loved a good game of bridge, spades or any game of strategy. When you played with her, you had to be on your toes!
Estelle was preceded in death by her parents Mary Frances and George Armistead, husband Tom DuBose, sister Amelia Walden, brother-in-law Wylie Walden and daughter Amy DuBose McGehee. Her memory will be cherished by her loving family, which includes her daughter, Allison Tomas and her husband, Don, of Sylva, North Carolina; son Win DuBose and his wife, Camile, of Uvalde; daughter Sarah McSween and her husband, Paul, of San Antonio; and her son-in-law Dennis McGehee and his wife, Tane, of Uvalde. Estelle also shared a special relationship with her brother, George "Chico" Armistead, and his wife, Carmen, of Austin, Texas. The legacy she leaves behind extends to 13 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren (with #28 on the way), each of whom she adored deeply.
Estelle's life and spirit will be celebrated at a Funeral Service on October 10, 2025, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip's Episcopal Church located at 343 N. Getty St., Uvalde, Texas. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, faith and familial bonds. Though she has passed, the impact she made on the lives of those who knew her will forever resonate in their hearts. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered.
