Elva Garcia Ibarra, lovingly known by many names — Mom, Grandma, Mamacita, and Gigi — passed away peacefully on January 18, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 19, 1932, in Bigfoot, Texas, to Eliseo and Maria Garcia, and spent most of her life in Uvalde, Texas, where she built a beautiful legacy of love and devotion to family.
Elva married the love of her life, Jose Ibarra Sr., on April 2, 1950. Together they shared a lifetime of love, faith, and cherished memories.
She is reunited in peace with her beloved husband; parents; and her siblings and their spouses, Suzanna Enriquez (Epifiano), Benito Garcia (Gloria), Ezequiel Garcia (Linda), Minerva Torres (Leocadio), Guillermo Garcia Sr. (Bernice), Edna Hernandez (Felix).
Elva was a devout Catholic whose faith guided her daily life. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Women’s Club, Guadalupanas, Cursillistas, and Divine Mercy, where she found joy in serving her church and community.
She dedicated 37 years of service working at Williamson-Dickie, where she was known for her strong work ethic, dependability, and dedication.
In addition to her career, Elva lovingly supported her husband in his upholstery shop, The Uvalde Trim Shop, until his passing. She was talented with her hands and had a heart for giving. She made beautiful knitted blankets, especially for babies, gifting them to many families as a symbol of her love and care.
Elva was also famous for her signature homemade cookies, made for every occasion. Her cookies were so loved they were even sent overseas, bringing comfort and joy far beyond her hometown.
Family was everything to her. She never missed a chance to show up for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren — attending school events, sports, and activities — until her health no longer allowed her to. Even then, her heart was always present.
She is survived by her loving children, Maria “Chelito” Ibarra of Uvalde, TX, Izamare Marcrum (Rick) of Devine, TX, • Irene Loza (Richard) of San Antonio, TX, Joe Ibarra Jr. (Maria Vela) of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Candace Esparza (Jesse) of Devine, TX, Justin Marcrum (Lexi) of Devine, TX, Joe Ibarra III (Nancy) of San Antonio, TX, and Julissa Ibarra of San Antonio, TX.
Her legacy continues through her beloved great-grandchildren, David, Rowdy, Kash, Kaylie, Nick, Hailey, Cloeè, Mazikeen, and Maverick.
We are deeply grateful that in her final days she was surrounded by family and love.
She will forever be remembered for her love, warm hugs, and the traditions she created — all of which will live on through generations.
