Elisa "Letty" Rodriguez

May 8, 1950 — December 15, 2019

Elisa “Letty” Placencia Rodriguez of Uvalde passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at her residence at the age of 69.

Elisa was the second of four children born to Stanley and Elisa (Samarripa) Placencia on May 8, 1950 at 110 Mayhew St. in Uvalde.

Elisa was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and taught Catechism for many years.

Elisa began her education at West Garden Elementary School and graduated from Uvalde High School in 1969.  As a student she excelled in all subjects and in high school was a member of the National Honor Society.  As a senior, she was also voted class secretary.  Elisa participated in the sports of basketball and volleyball throughout her high school years having earned Honorable Mention in basketball and also given the nickname “Junior” from her teammates.

After graduation, Elisa attended SWTJC on a John Nance Garner Memorial Scholarship where she received her Associate of Arts Degree. She continued her journey as a wife and mother while working many years in the convenient store businesses at Minit Mart, Picos, Partners, and Dynamics.

Elisa was known as a great cook, seamstress and had a great passion for reading, especially any book about mystery and crime.  She would oftentimes sew dresses for her daughter without the use of patterns.  She also loved to sew Halloween costumes for her children and friends.  Her creativity would amaze everyone.

Later on in life, and after a very long pause, Elisa decided to continue with her education.  She enrolled at Sul Ross State University and completed her Bachelor of Arts Degree in education.  Thus began the next passion in her life.  That was the love of teaching.  Just like her two sisters she became a school teacher and taught bilingual students at Anthon Elementary School until she retired in 2012.  She genuinely cared for all her students and worked very hard to make sure they got the best education she could give them.  Like many of her colleagues, Elisa also earned the honor of being named Anthon Teacher of the Year.  After her retirement she continued to educate students and became a substitute teacher.

She will always be remembered by her friends and relatives as being a very strong and independent person.  Just like her parents she lived a life of devotion to her children and will be missed tremendously by everyone she knew.

Elisa loved life, loved her planet, loved her little dog, Bella, and above loved her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Katherine Elisa Placencia Garcia of Uvalde; son, George Lucas Rodriguez and fiancé Maricela Sanchez of Uvalde; two sisters, Hermina P. Torres and husband, Roy and Gloria P. Ramos and husband, Felipe all of Uvalde; brother, Armando Placencia and wife Vida Jane of Uvalde; two grandchildren, Raymundo Rodriguez and Ava Rodriguez of Uvalde; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
