Elias Varela

Elias A. Varela of Uvalde passed away on January 3, 2012 at University Hospital in San Antonio at the age of 80. He was born on July 26, 1931 in Knippa, Texas to Antonio and Margarita Arrellano Varela. He is survived by his wife Magdalena Cuellar Varela, daughters, Oralia Castillo and husband Armando and Rachel Varela all of Uvalde, sons, Alberto Bernal of Tennessee and Leo Varela of San Antonio, sister, Luisa Alvarado of Knippa, 13 grandchildren, 4 greatgrandchildren, 2 greatgreat grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Mario Bernal and grandsoninlaw, Reynaldo Gonzales. A rosary will be held on Thursday January 5, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. the RushingEstesKnowles Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
