Edna Kolinek passed away on April 11, 2007.

Mary Edna Lee Kolinek was born May 3, 1907, in Kenedy, Texas to Hugh L. Lee and Jenny Lewis Lee, the eldest of seven children. They were raised on a farm outside of Kenedy and she often rode a horse or drove a buggy to school and was in charge of the younger children. She graduated from Kenedy High School.

She and Edwin Kolinek were married on October 2, 1927 at the First Baptist Church in Kenedy.

They moved to Uvalde in 1932.

Kolinek was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church. She was active in various church activities, teaching Sunday School and working with young people. She was also active in the womens organizations. In addition, she was an active member of the American Cancer Society for many years helping to organize the group in Uvalde. She loved hand work and enjoyed needlepoint, crochet and knitting.

For many years she was a dental assistant to Dr. Gale Blackaller, and later worked for Drs. Hess and Carr.

Many of the patients with whom she made friends still recall her calm and reassuring manner.

During the years her grandchildren were growing up she often attended services with them at St. Philips Episcopal Church and in 1990 she became a member of St. Philips.

Edna, too, became famous for making all her grandchildrens friends cornbread and sourdough biscuits while they were growing up and during their college days. It was not unusual for her to make pans for them on the weekends and holidays.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years in 1979; her parents; her sisters and brothers-in law, Elton and Grace Ahrens of Aransas Pass; Hugh and Catherine Lee of Fort Worth; Julia Doris and Earl Behnsch of Rocksprings; Stella Lee of Uvalde and Wilbur and Ruth Lee of Crystal City; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Thompson Kolinek of Uvalde.

She is survived by her children Mary Lee and husband, Tom Haby of Brackettville, and Bill Ed Kolinek of Uvalde; grandchildren, Chip and wife, Kasey Haby of La Coste; Ashley Kolinek and fiance, Ben Ferguson of ConCan and San Antonio and Will Kolinek of San Marcos; great-grandchildren, Tillman and Sarah Haby of La Coste. In addition she is survived by Marvin and Shirla Kolinek, her nephew and his wife and their children, Greg Kolinek; Lori and Neal Brewster; and Julie and H.T. Langford; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
PA memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at St. Philips Episcop
