Dolores G. McCurley Obituary
Dolores McCurley passed away Sunday, May 25th, at home in Uvalde, TX.
She was born in Conroe, TX on November 11th, 1934 to Lucille and John Gee.
On December 21 , 1952 she married Robert (Bob) McCurley, and soon they were stationed in Hawaii as part of Bob's naval service. The two settled in Plano, Texas and raised their two daughters before retiring in New Braunfels, TX. After Bob's death in 2009, Dolores lived in the Eden Village Community in New Braunfels and moved to Uvalde to be closer to her daughter in 2020.
Dolores spent her life as a teacher and later a counselor and spent many hours volunteering in her community and singing in church and community choirs, believing that her life's work was to leave the world better than she found it.
She is survived by her daughter, Laura Susan Anderson and husband, Forrest of Uvalde; her grandchildren, Forrest Nicole Myane, Algera Lee Anderson, Jenna Caresse Burns Hayles,
John Rocco (Mac) Burns and Emily Caroline Burns; and her great grandchildren, Zeta Lee Riley, Iva Louise Riley, Forrest Isabelle Myane and Mary Frances Myane; and her "adopted" son Steve Tran and family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Ulmont McCurley and her daughter Lori Ann McCurley Burns, her parents, sister, Ymelda Lewis and brothers Everett Wayne and Melvin Doyle Gee.
She was well loved and taken care of by Janie Rubio, Maritza Hernandez and Juana Medina in her final days. Her family is extremely grateful for their care.
A service will be held at Fort Sam Cemetery on June 11th . In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Endeavors or the Children's Bereavement Center in honor of her passion for counseling ministries.
