Agnes Catherine Terry Alderson passed away peacefully on June 11, 2025 at Uvalde Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 96. Known to everyone as Catherine, Aunt Cat, Sis, Mom, or Meemaw, she lived in Uvalde, Tx for 54 years.
Catherine was born in Rodessa, Louisiana on November 14, 1928, the 3rd of 6 children to Robert Adolphus Terry and Iva Lucile Hale. She married James Hubert “Herb” Alderson on November 29, 1946 in Brownsville, Texas. Catherine and Herb enjoyed 61 years together, growing their family with five children, Terry, Gary, James, Diane, and Bo.
She was a devoted wife, a strong and loving mother, a savvy business woman and a pillar in the community. She dedicated decades to raising their children and supporting the family business, Herb’s Glass Service (Now Glasco). Ever the entrepreneur, she built a thriving Avon business at the age of 60 and continued it for the next 36 years. In those years she won numerous awards for her work and dedication. Catherine never met a stranger and had a home-made pie ready for anyone who stopped by to visit.
Catherine had an unwavering faith in her lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Everyone who knew her knew her love of Jesus and felt the love of Jesus through her. She was a member of the Nazarene Church for all 54 of her years in Uvalde. In 2004, she started a prayer group in her living e room at the age of 75. For 21 years the ecumenical group met faithfully, every week in her home even until the day after her passing.
She was a strong matriarch and built a beautiful legacy of family and love. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Fred Lanier of Rockwall, three sons and their spouses, Terry and Sandy Alderson of Fairview, James and Cyndi Alderson of Canyon Lake, Bo and Debbie Alderson of Uvalde. Also in her legacy, Catherine leaves on this earth her 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Catherine is preceded in death by her husband, Herb, daughter, Kathy Diane Jongema, son-in-law, Robin Jongema, and son Gary Alderson, sisters, Ruth Allcock and Naomi Richey, and brothers Kenneth Terry and Robert Terry.
Visitation is set from 6 to 8 p.m. June 20 at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral service is set at 4:30 p.m. June 21 at Baptist Temple Church, followed by interment at Hillcrest Cemetery.
