Carole R. Campbell

Carole Jean (Ruthstrom) Campbell, 81, of Uvalde County, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2025, at her residence.

She was born on July 18, 1944, in Houston to Gertrude (Wyatt) and Allan Ruthstrom. Her father was a member of the Ruthstrom Family Band, which immigrated to the U.S. from Sweden in 1917.

She married John Calvin Campbell Sr. on July 21, 1962 in Houston.

She met her future husband at age 13 through her brother's friendship and a mutual interest in ham radio. She obtained the highest level of ham radio license, and her call sign was K5VAH.

She was always interested in technology. She and her husband owned Houston's first cellular phone store. She loved singing, having inherited a musical gene from her father. She was a member of the Concan Baptist Church and choir. She also enjoyed gardening – roses, in particular, good food and fossil/rock hunting. She passed this on to her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Marie Cubbage and husband, Jeffrey, of Uvalde County; son, John Calvin Campbell Jr. of Houston; grandson, Jeffrey Scott Cubbage Jr. and wife, Kirsten, of Concan; two granddaughters, Brittney Lynn Ferguson and husband, Tyler, of New Braunfels; and Jessica Lynn Valadez and husband, Robert, of Sabinal; and six great-grandchildren, Tegan, Finley, Quinn, and Rainey Ferguson, and Alina and Ian Valadez.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers, Ronald Wayne Ruthstrom and Paul Allan Ruthstrom; sister, Linda Kay Collins; and daughter-in-law Suzanne Campbell.
