Billie Jean Faulkner Davis passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025. She was born in-home January 8, 1933. Her parents were Maida Christine Haby Faulkner and Clarence Leonard Faulkner.
Always one to apply herself, she graduated from Leakey High School at the age of 16 and enrolled in Durham’s Business School in San Antonio. Following her graduation, she worked at Fort Sam Houston for several years.
She married John Allen Davis in Leakey, Texas on August 23, 1952. They had two children, Teralea Davis Jones and John Allen Davis, Jr. After both of her children were old enough to attend school, she was driven to continue her education and earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with multiple certifications in education. From 1967 to 2000, she worked for the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District serving as a 4th grade teacher, Educational Diagnostician, School Counselor, and her last year as Interim Principal at Robb Elementary.
Billie Jean was an active member of First Baptist Church Uvalde where she taught several Sunday School classes. In fact, she taught Sunday School until the age of 90 when she moved to an Independent Living facility in San Antonio. Memberships included Uvalde de Las Encinas DAR Chapter, Caddell-Smith Chapter DRT and Uvalde Area Retired Teachers Association.
Billie Jean is survived by her sister, Jeroline Pletcher and sister-in-law, Lucille Wills. Her two children, four grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends also survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her in-laws (Bob and Annie Davis), her brothers Bob Suttle, Bill Suttle and Earl Faulkner. She was also preceded in death by the eight children of Bob and Annie Davis and seven of their spouses.
Pallbearers are her grandchildren: John Jacob Davis, Millicent Ryne, Kyle Allen Davis, and Kali Davis Kinnaird; nephews Todd A. Pletcher and Dub Suttle; and cousin Archie McFadin, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers are all of her former students.
A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 2 pm August 2, 2025 at First Baptist Church Uvalde. Memorials may be made to Alto Frio Baptist Encampment, Leakey, Texas, El Progresso Memorial Library Uvalde or a charity of choice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Rushing- Estes- Knowles Mortuary of Uvalde.
