Beverly Ann Schmidt

Beverly Ann Schmidt, affectionately known as “Baba,” a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on April 10th, 2026, at the age of 72.

Beverly was born on September 1, 1953, in Uvalde, Texas, to Betty Jo and Austin Schaefer. On June 1, 1971, she married the love of her life, Jerod “Poncho” Schmidt Jr. On June 25, 1981, they welcomed their son, Justin Schmidt, who remained one of her greatest joys and proudest accomplishments. She cherished her role as a mother and later as a grandmother to her two grandsons, Hunter and Brazos, whom she adored deeply.

Beverly began her career with the Sabinal Bank in 1978, where she quickly became known for her work ethic, and kindness. Following the bank’s transition to First State Bank of Uvalde, she was named Branch Manager in 1991. Beverly dedicated 40 years to her career before retiring in 2018, leaving a lasting impact on her colleagues and the Sabinal community.

Beverly also gave her time selflessly to others, volunteering with the Sabinal EMS for four years.

Beverly is survived by her husband, Jerod “Poncho” Schmidt Jr.; son, Justin Schmidt and his wife Amanda; grandsons, Hunter and Brazos; sisters, Kathy Sprott and Wanda Hudson; and brother, Austin Schaefer Jr.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Austin and Betty Jo Schaefer.

Beverly will be remembered for her love of cooking and baking, always delivering meals and treats to loved ones on birthdays, holidays or just because. She had a playful spirit and loved telling stories that would draw you in completely, only to end with a laugh and her signature phrase, “just kidding.”

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 2pm at the Sabinal Cemetery.
