Aurora "Mamie" C Muniz

Aurora “Mamie” Muñiz of Uvalde, Texas, entered eternal rest on October 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 5, 1943, in Uvalde, TX, the fourth of ten children.

Mamie attended Sacred Heart Catholic School through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Uvalde High School in 1962. At just 17, she met the love of her life, Fred (Lico) Muñiz, and the two were married in 1965. Life brought its share of twists and turns, but Lico remained her true love.

She was a devoted mother to her two sons, Albert Muñiz and wife Debbie of Odessa, and Fred Muñiz Jr. and wife Lindsay of Austin. Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren—Jalen Ray Muñiz, Daniella Muñiz, Ashton Muñiz, Brendan and Gracie Minter, and Trey Muñiz. Her two daughters-in-law, Debbie and Lindsay, loved and admired her so very much and will forever cherish the special bond they shared with her.

Mamie’s best friends in the world were her sisters. Together they shared endless laughter, stories, and traditions—beginning with attending the 7:30 a.m. Sunday Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, followed by coffee, conversation, and family time.

In her younger years, Mamie volunteered at Sacred Heart Catholic School, where she helped pay for tuition and meals through her service and assisted with money counting. Those were also the years she loved to dance for hours, spend days at the river, and host gatherings filled with family, food, and music—moments that reflected her lively spirit, joy for life, and deep love for her community. It was also during those years that everyone looked forward to her famous Pachuco’s, chicken tacos and homemade tortillas—true symbols of her love and hospitality.

Throughout her life, Mamie worked hard and made lasting friendships wherever she went—from Dairy Queen and the Marble Shop to Kmart and Dickies. Known for her warmth, witty humor, and generosity, she became a “second mom” to many of her sons’ friends who were always welcomed with open arms, a full plate, and plenty of love.

In her later years, Mamie found joy and purpose in her daily visits to the Uvalde Nutrition and Herbie Ham Activity Centers, where she loved playing bingo and spending time with her friends, sisters, and sisters-in-law. She cherished her community and the laughter and love that filled her days.

Mamie’s favorite color was red, and her favorite flower was a red rose. She was a lifelong baseball fan and recently stayed up watching the 18th-inning World Series game—proof of her passion, loyalty, and love for the game.

She enjoyed playing Lotería, where she was always known to win big. She cherished her family and friends who brought joy into her days. In her final days, she was surrounded by the love and care of her devoted family. Her caregivers, affectionately known as “Team Queen,” were a source of comfort and pride to her and her family.

Mamie also had numerous nieces and nephews whom she admired deeply—and they admired her right back. She was a “cool Tía” who showed up to celebrate and love them, leaving behind countless cherished memories.

Mamie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her laughter, her love of life, and the countless lives she touched. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with the loved ones who have gone before her and that her spirit will live on in every gathering, every dance, every loteria game, and every chicken taco shared in her honor.
