Arturo “Art” Melchiades Luna, 65, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2026.
Art was born on December 10, 1960, in San Antonio, TX, and raised in Uvalde, TX, where he built lifelong friendships and deep roots in the community he loved.
On January 26, 1980, he married the love of his life, Sulema Belman Luna, in Uvalde, TX. Together they built a loving marriage and family that remained the center of his life for more than four decades. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Veronica Luna, and took great joy in preserving family memories through photographs and videos. Art was known as the family documentarian, always behind the camera capturing moments that will now become treasured memories for generations to come.
Art worked in the oil and gas exploration industry beginning in the 1980s and dedicated many years to his profession. Above all, he will be remembered as an amazing husband and father whose kindness, humor, faith, and love touched everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sulema Belman Luna; daughter, Veronica Lourdes Luna; sisters, Soila Martinez (Uvalde, TX) and Sylvia Luna (Knippa, TX); brothers, Robert Luna (Sun City, CA), Faustino Luna (San Antonio, TX), and Antonio Luna (Uvalde, TX); along with numerous extended family members and dear friends.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Agustina Luna; his in-laws, Pedro and Trine Belman; and his sister, Guadalupe Luna.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 3, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, with the Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, June 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Art’s faith, love and devotion to his family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
