Artemio Rodriguez

Artemio (Temio) F. Rodriguez, 74, of Uvalde passed away on September 8, 2026 at his residence.

Born on June 10, 1952, in La Pryor, Texas, Artemio was the beloved son of Sara Flores and Jose B. Rodriguez. Growing up, he was a quiet boy who loved baseball. He loved to fish, bar-b-que, and worked from a very young age as a butcher. He was involved in the Uvalde Walkout of 1970 and performed in the plays (teatro) during the Walkout.

Temio will be lovingly remembered by his five children, Artemio Salazar and wife Jessica of San Angelo, Aaron Rodriquez of Uvalde, Adrian Rodriguez of Uvalde, Andres Rodriguez of Uvalde, and Victoria Carranza and husband Otilia of Uvalde; and his seven grandchildren, AJ Salazar, Johnathan Salazar, Sylvester Salazar, Aaron Rodriguez, Liam Rodriguez, Cruzito Rodriguez, and Jorge Carranza.

Artemio graduated from Uvalde High School in 1972 and received an Associates of Applied Science in Carpentry from Texas State Technical Institute in Waco. He was the first in his family to go to college and earn a degree. He worked for many years as a carpenter and contractor.

Temio loved baseball and was a Little League Coach for many years. He also umpired baseball games. His favorite baseball team was the Houston Astros. He was involved in the community as President of the Little League, President of the Uvalde Jaycees, was given the key to the city of Uvalde and was also honored as Uvaldean of the Year.

In his later years, he worked as a deer processor specializing in skinning, deboning, and custom cuts of meat. He made sausage, jerky and ground venison. He also catered brisket and chicken for many weddings, banquets, and parties. You would always see him walking around town collecting cans as a hobby.

He is also survived by his loving siblings, Maria Nelia Salazar, Armando Rodriguez (Odilia), Rosa Elia Rodriguez, Veronica Flores (Roberto), Zinna Aguilera, and Cynthia Martinez (Mica) and many extended family members and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sara F. and Jose B. Rodriguez, his spouse, Elia Salazar, brothers, Joe Rodriguez, Mario Alberto Rodriguez, Alejandro Rodriguez, Arnoldo Rodriguez, and his sisters, Alicia Gonzales, and Sylvia Magdaleno.

Temio's memory will live on through his children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family and friends. He will be deeply missed but the love he gave and his memory will last forever.
