Antonio J. Ovalle “Tonche,” of Uvalde, passed away on July 8, 2022 in Uvalde at the age of 75. He was born on August 26, 1946 in Fort Morgan, Colorado to Maximilio and Andrea Ovalle.
He married Rosa Maria Gutierrez on November 22, 1969 in Uvalde.
Antonio graduated from Uvalde High School in 1966. He volunteered for the United States Army and served from September 7, 1966 until September 5, 1969. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. During his service in the Army, he was wounded in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. He was employed at General Tire Test Track and the US Postal Service in Uvalde. He retired from the Post Office in 2008.
Antonio is survived by his wife of 52 years of Uvalde; daughter Andrea Langford and husband Matt of Rowlett; son Diego Ovalle and wife Christina of Uvalde; son Tony Ovalle Jr. of Uvalde; brother Max Ovalle and wife Mary of Uvalde. He has 5 grandkids. Jake and Amy Langford, Diego Jr., Viviana, and Arianna Ovalle; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Gregoria Ruiz and niece Estella O. Ruiz.
He had a passion for classic cars. He enjoyed restoring them and driving them around town. He also enjoyed playing the guitar for family and friends. He is mostly known for making people laugh with his constant joking. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 13th, 2022 from 5:00-9:00 PM at Rushing Estes Knowles Funeral Home in Uvalde, TX. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14th, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Rushing Estes Knowles. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Manuel Gutierrez, Richard Olvedo, Juan Zamora, Joe Ovalle, Jake Langford, Diego Ovalle Jr., and Carlos Zamora.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mandito Cardona, Armando Manzanares, Frank Alegria, Kile Sena, Ernesto Campos, Oscar “La Mosca” Aguirre, Carlos Fernandez, Pee Wee Torres, Mario Juarez, and Roy Torres Sr.
