Antonia P. Hernandez, age 93, of Uvalde, Texas, peacefully entered eternal rest on May 19, 2026 at her daughter's residence in Atascosa, Texas.
Antonia was born on June 13, 1932, in Sabinal, Texas, to Daniel S. Perez and Telesfora D. Perez. She was raised with strong family values, a hardworking spirit, and a deep love for those around her. On September 27, 1957, she married the love of her life, Marcelo G. Hernandez, in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. They shared nearly 49 wonderful years of marriage until Marcelo's passing on May 30, 2006.
To know Antonia was to know kindness, strength, and unconditional love. She was the heart of her family, always ready with a warm meal, a comforting embrace, a listening ear, and words of encouragement. Her home was a place where family gathered, stories were shared, and memories were made. She found her greatest joy in caring for her loved ones and took immense pride in watching her family grow through each generation. Her love was constant, her faith was steadfast, and her presence was a blessing to all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving children, John Hernandez of Uvalde; Joe and Lila Hernandez of Campwood; Paula Cmielewski of San Antonio; Marcelo "Duke" and Ilda Hernandez of Poteet; Guadalupe "Scoop" Hernandez of Colorado; and Santa Monica Baxa and partner Michael Pacitto of Atascosa. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Joe Baxa of Atascosa, and daughter-in-law, Kathy Hernandez of Uvalde.
Antonia's greatest legacy lives on through her family. She leaves behind 18 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. She is also survived by her siblings, Ambrosio and Isabel Perez of Wyoming; Daniel and Aurora Perez of Idaho; Guadalupe and Sam Price; Mary Helen Perez; Jimmy and Sandra Perez; Silver and Trini Perez, all of Uvalde; and Marty and Bill Pugh of South Dakota, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure the love and memories she shared with them.
She was welcomed into heaven by those who preceded her in death: her parents, Daniel and Telesfora Perez; her beloved husband, Marcelo G. Hernandez; her infant daughter, Roberta Hernandez; her son, Barnabe Hernandez; her grandsons, Ruben Hernandez and Travis Babbit; her son-in-law, Anthony Cmielewski; her sisters, Juanita Hernandez and Maria Cantu; and her brothers, Inez Perez and Andrew Perez.
Though her family grieves her passing, they find comfort in knowing she has been reunited with those she loved and has gone home to the Lord. Her gentle spirit, loving heart, and enduring example of selfless devotion will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 5:00 p.m., at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde.
Antonia's life was a testament to the power of love, family, and faith. While she will be deeply missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace.
