Anthony Southerland

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anthony "Keith" Southerland from Uvalde, who left us on April 24, 2023, at the age of 67. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, who touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor, and determination.

Keith was born in Laredo, Texas, on August 18, 1955, to Maria Guadalupe (Sanchez) and William Albert Southerland. He graduated college with a Bachelor of Business Administration from A&I University, where he also completed graduate coursework towards an MBA.

Keith married his wife of over 30 years, Darleen Rachel Doughty, on August 8, 1992, on a warm fall evening at his family's ranch outside of San Diego - where their family would gather for Easter and Christmas for years to come.

Keith is survived by his wife, Rachel, and their three children, William, Marie, and Andrew, whom he cared for throughout his life. He is also survived by his sister Lynn, his two brothers Mike and James, and numerous nieces and nephews.

During his professional career as a CFO in Education, Keith worked vigorously to support the arts, ensuring children had access to the resources they needed to thrive.

Beyond his work, Keith was an active member of his community - giving his time and talents to organizations like the Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America, and multiple 4-H clubs across Texas.

His passion for the outdoors was reflected across his love for fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles, hobbies he enjoyed sharing with friends and family.

Keith's loss will be deeply felt by all who knew him. Cremation arrangements have been made under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary, and a memorial service will be held later this month to celebrate Keith's life and legacy. He will be forever missed and remembered by those who knew and loved him.
