Alberto Maldonado Barrios

Alberto Maldonado Barrios, 70, of Uvalde, Texas passed away at his home on Monday, September 21, 2026.

He was born on Sunday, March 11, 1956 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital to Teresa Maldonado and Alejandro Barrios.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Janie Diaz Barrios; sons Robert Barrios of Austin, Texas; and Marcos Alejandro Barrios of Conroe, Texas; sisters Maribel Obregon; Veronica Hinojosa and husband Ernest, all of Uvalde, Texas; Josefina Morales of La Pryor, Texas; and Mary Alicia Gonzales of Ohio; nieces Jennifer Zamora and husband Pete; Marie Vasquez; Christina Castro and husband Ramon; Evangelina Vasquez and partner Hector Valdez; Noemi Gonzalez and husband Juan; Amelia Luz Vasquez and partner Josie Garza; Pilar Valdez and husband Ismael; Diana Carreon; Anaalicia Barrios and partner Leeroy Moncada; Stephanie Vargas and husband Michael; and Shania Obregon; nephews Ricardo Vasquez; Joel Vasquez; Arnold Barrios, Jr.; Marco L. Hinojosa and wife Sheila; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Aurora Barrios; son, Alberto Barrios, Jr.; brother, Arnoldo A. Barrios; sister, Jayne Barrios Vasquez; and beloved Aunt and Uncle Juanita and Andy Vasquez.

He was active in the community through involvement with the Uvalde Service Organization. For over 20 years the USO fundraised to provide an annual New Years Eve meal and dance for senior citizens with the help of many community leaders. He was also heavily involved in local politics and would remind you to register to vote. He was a fan of the Cowboys, Spurs, and Longhorns; loved Tejano music; and enjoyed cumbia dancing.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Hector E. Valdez; Ramon R. Castro, Jr.; Juan Antonio Gonzalez, Jr.; José Mejia; Noah Aiden Medina; and Gregorio L. Jimenez III.

Visitation will begin Sunday, September 27, 2026 at 1pm with a rosary at 7pm at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Uvalde, Texas on Monday, September 28, 2026 at 10am. Interment to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Reception will be held at the American Legion.
