Alberta "Berta" Wagner

Alberta Shannon Wagner, 85, of Uvalde, died on Feb. 8, 2023, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary in Uvalde.

She was born on April 28, 1937, in Sabinal, to Maxine (Whitlock) and Robert Shannon.

In 1955, she graduated from Sabinal High School, where she met the love of her life and future husband, Billy H. Wagner. The couple married on Sept. 20, 1955, in Seguin, and were married for 66 years before his death.

“Berta,” as she was best known, enjoyed genealogy, her decades-long role as secretary for the Concan cemetery, and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by two sons, Billy C. Wagner and wife, Lisa, of Uvalde, and Rod Wagner of Bryan; daughter, Shana Toomey and husband, James, of Powell, Tennessee; sister, Linda Graves of Round Rock; brother, Robert Theige and wife, Kathie, of New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Will Wagner and wife, Lana, of Lenorah, Lauren Wooldridge and husband, Jason, of Bryan, Kyle Wagner and wife, Cye, of Fort Worth, Katie Lafferty and husband, Kevin, of Houston, Brandon Toomey of Maryville, Tennessee, and Jet Toomey and wife, Victoria, and Jon Toomey, all of Powell, Tennessee; eight great-grandchildren, Patton, Lorelei and Worth Wagner, Eli Wooldridge, Davis and Conrad Wagner, Liam Lafferty, and Lyanna Toomey; sister-in-law, Carol Haynes of Uvalde; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Jon Jerome Wagner; brother, Bobby Morrison; and stepfather, Jerry Theige.

Cremation is under the direction of Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.
