Knippa

Alan Ray Klaus, 69, of Knippa died on Jan. 10, 2026, at the Methodist Hospital in San Antonio.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Jan 24 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Knippa. Interment will follow at Knippa Cemetery.

He was born on July 15, 1956, in Uvalde to Joyce (Gohmert) and Erwin Klaus.

He graduated from Knippa High School in 1974 and attended Southwest Texas College. His love for the land and farming led him to a 34-year career at the Uvalde County Farmers' Coop. There, he learned a love of grain brokering, which he continued for several years on his own.

While at the Coop, he earned the respect of his peers and local farmers, who became some of his very best friends. They described him as a whiz when it came to crunching numbers, and he was known far and wide for his experience in the field.

He married Nancy Bingham in 1988. Their 37 years together included family, farming, and many many fishing trips. It didn’t matter if it was fresh water, salt water, or a creek – there was always time to cast a line.

He was a fixture in the Knippa community. He was a member of the Knippa Sons of Hermann Lodge and served as an EMT for the Knippa Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed refereeing basketball games in his free time and served on the Knippa school board for many years.

Of all the hats he wore, being Pops to his grandchildren was his favorite. He loved spending time with them on the water or on the farm.

He is survived by his wife, of Knippa; son, Justin Klaus of Victoria; step daughter, Pamela Woods and husband, Chip, of Alice; four grandchildren, Ava and Olivia Klaus of Victoria, Cinco Woods of Lubbock, and Carsyn Woods of Alice; sister-in-law, Wanda Bingham of Lakehills; brother-in-law Terry Bingaham and wife Kathy of La Pryor; niece Kaeli Brown and husband, Rusty; nephew, Kolby Klaus and wife, Marli; and five great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gary Klaus.
