Abelardo S. Romero

Abelardo S. Romero, 95, of San Antonio, Texas formerly of Uvalde, Texas passed away on September 24, 2025, at his residence.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. at Rushing-Estes-Knowles Mortuary.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, October 3, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery.

He was born on July 4, 1930, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Maria (Sarmiento) and Marcelino B. Romero.

He married Esperanza Rodriguez on January 11, 1953, in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico.

He is survived by his wife, Esperanza Romero of 72 years of San Antonio; four daughters, Maria Romero and partner, Lydia Bosquez of San Antonio, Hope Silva and husband, Joel of Westlake Village, CA, Syliva Romero of San Antonio, and Lupe Casanova and husband, Omar of San Antonio; six sons, Marcelino Romero and wife, Adriana of Atlanta, GA, Ruben Romero and wife, Irma of San Antonio, Martin Romero of Lakehills, Rene Romero and wife, Julie of Uvalde, Rolando Romero and wife, Diana of San Antonio, and Jorge Romero and wife, Valerie of Uvalde; sister, Esmeralda De Hoyos and husband, Raul of Uvalde; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, one great- great granddaughter, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Jesus Abelardo Romero, Enrique Romero; great grandson, Xander Rene Romero; 8 brothers; and 1 sister.
