Jimmi Ruth McClung

February 6, 1930 ~ August 21, 2019 (age 89)

Jimmi Ruth “Browning” McClung of Katy, Texas, formerly of Uvalde, passed peacefully at her home on August 21, 2019 at the age of 89.  She was born on February 6, 1930 in Hillsboro, Texas, to Jim and Ora Browning.  The youngest of four children, her father passed away unexpectedly months after her birth.   She grew up in Hillsboro, where she met the love of her life, Burhl McClung, and they were married on October 21, 1950 after his service in the Navy in WWII.  After his graduation from Texas A&M, he went to work for the USDA, which transferred them to many different parts of the country, including Baton Rouge, LA, Brenham and Harlingen, TX, and Champaign, IL.  In each of these locations, Jimmi’s strong administrative background enabled her to easily find employment in any locale.  They were ultimately relocated to Uvalde, TX, where Burhl eventually retired.  Upon his death in 2014, Jimmi moved to Katy to be closer to her daughter, Penny.

Jimmi fiercely loved her family.  She was an excellent cook and even better seamstress, and indulged her love of sewing by becoming an exceptional quilter.  She also loved to crochet, and created beautiful afghans that she lovingly gifted to family and friends.   In addition, she was an avid reader and 42 player.  They especially enjoyed their many years with the Uvalde Honey Bees Square Dance Club, which introduced them to the Camping Squares, resulting in numerous memorable RV trips around the country.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Uvalde during her years there, and then with the First Baptist Church of Katy upon her relocation.

Jimmi was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, as well as her siblings, Louise Von Soosten, Elizabeth Allred and Mike Browning, and one son-in-law, Steven D’Urso.  She is survived by her daughters, Pam D’Urso and Penny Thomas (Randy) of Katy, sons Scott McClung (Janece) of Uvalde, and Kelly McClung (Cassie) of San Antonio; 9 grandchildren, Megan Steinlage, Kim Block, Hunter Thomas, Haley Thomas, Taylor Morton, Josh McClung, Kayla McClung, Jeanneh Allen, and Sunni Merritt, as well as 6 great grandchildren.

Interment services will be held at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio on Wed, Aug 28th, at 11:30am.  There will be an additional celebration of Jimmi’s life at the Atria in Katy, TX, date to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the charity of your choice.
