Ellis Menchaca, Sr. of Uvalde, Texas passed away on April 16, 2017 at Uvalde Memorial Hospital at the age of 92. He was born on September 3, 1924 in Muzquiz, Mexico. He wed Rosie Canales in 1951.
He is survived by his son, Ellis Menchaca. Jr. and wife Irma, daughter Grace Reeve and husband, David. He has three grandsons Ellis Menchaca, III, George Allan Menchaca and Mark Anthony Menchaca. Mr. Menchaca was preceded in death by his wife, Rosie Canales, mother, Maria Trevino, father, Raymundo Trevino, and sister, Alicia Alston
Growing up on a ranch in Muzquiz, he became a skilled horseman and ranch hand. He returned to the United States as a young man and began working at the famous TP Lee Ranch. Menchaca rose from cowboy to foreman to farm manager of some of the top cattle and farming operations in Uvalde and Zavala County. In addition to this, he was the first graduate from Southwest Texas Junior College to earn his degree by solely attending night school. Later, he attended St. Mary’s University. From cowboy to rancher to businessman he faced no obstacle to great to overcome, no goal to far to reach.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Rushing- Estes-Knowles Mortuary. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ellis Menchaca, III, George Menchaca, Mark Menchaca, David Reeve, Rod Gutierrez and Rudy Pruneda.
